Who Is the Creator of Grateful Kitty?
I’m the person behind Grateful Kitty, a California desert lifestyle blog about outdoor living, wellness, adventure, healthy aging, technology, pets, travel, and the little things that make modern life more interesting.
I’m a survivor, a seeker, a reader, a writer, an artist, and a person of faith. I’m equally happy experimenting in the kitchen, wandering around the desert, rearranging something in my house, getting lost in a museum, or finding an unexpectedly fabulous treasure at a thrift store. I appreciate fashion, glamour and beautiful things, but I’m also a big fan of practical living. Life is expensive enough without making everything complicated.
At the heart of it all, I’m curious. I like learning how things work, discovering better ways to do things, and sharing what I find useful. I believe creativity, experience, compassion and a little willingness to try something new can make us better humans—and hopefully make everyday life a little more enjoyable, too.
Life in the California Mojave Desert
I came to the California desert to heal, grow and get to know myself better. I stayed because the desert has a way of making you pay attention.
The Mojave is beautiful, strange, quiet and occasionally ridiculous—in the best possible way. Joshua trees, cholla, sage, mountains, enormous skies and surprisingly dramatic sunsets are part of the scenery around here. So are heat waves, dust, rattlesnakes and the occasional encounter with a creature that seems personally offended by your existence.
I love the dry climate, the solitude and the quiet energy of the desert. There is something about living somewhere with so much open space that encourages you to slow down, look around and listen to yourself. For me, the desert has become both home and teacher.
Why Does Grateful Kitty Exist?
Grateful Kitty exists because I like sharing things that genuinely make life better.
Sometimes that means a product that saves time or money. Sometimes it means a wellness discovery, a useful piece of technology, a great place to visit, a better way to care for a pet, or simply a reminder to get outside and look at the stars.
I care about quality of life—not perfection, because honestly, who has time for that? I’m interested in healthier pets, simpler living, practical wellness, meaningful experiences and smart ways to use technology without allowing technology to use us.
The goal is pretty simple: find things worth knowing about and share them with people who might appreciate them, too.
Why I Love the Outdoors
I enjoy plenty of things about civilization, but much of my happiness happens outside.
I love hiking, camping, stargazing, birdwatching, rock hunting and exploring the mountains and desert. I love fresh air, big landscapes and those rare moments when there is absolutely nothing that needs my attention.
I’m also convinced that picnics are seriously underrated.
A beautiful trail doesn't have to be difficult, and an adventure doesn't have to involve a plane ticket. Sometimes it's a day trip, a scenic drive, a new trail or an afternoon sitting somewhere quiet with good food. And a clear desert night sky? Frankly, it can compete with a Hollywood blockbuster.
My Approach to Wellness
My approach to wellness is pretty uncomplicated: drink plenty of clean water, move your body, eat reasonably well, get outside, sleep when you can, and pay attention to what makes you feel good versus what merely looks good on Instagram.
I enjoy fish, try to limit processed foods and alcohol, and I'm interested in quality supplements and practical approaches to healthy aging. I’m not interested in pretending there is one perfect wellness routine for everyone.
I also believe wellness is bigger than food and exercise. Connection, creativity, nature, purpose, animals, laughter and love matter, too. In fact, I think love might be one of the most underrated forms of wellness technology we have.
My Relationship With Technology
I love technology. The fact that we can communicate instantly, learn almost anything, build businesses from home and access extraordinary creative tools from a little screen is pretty amazing.
But I also believe in the off switch.
AI, social media, algorithms, bots, online arguments and endless streams of content can be useful—or they can become digital junk food. Too much of it starts to feel like drinking hot sauce. A few drops can make things better. A whole bottle is probably a mistake.
Grateful Kitty explores technology as a tool for living better, creating more, learning faster and finding opportunities—not as a replacement for actually living.
Travel, Adventure & the Joy of Looking Around
I love traveling because getting somewhere unfamiliar has a funny way of rearranging your perspective.
Different landscapes, cultures, architecture, food and traditions remind us that our own little corner of the world isn't the whole world. I’m fascinated by exotic destinations, but I’m equally happy being a daytripper. A thrift shop, flea market, roadside attraction or garage sale can be a perfectly legitimate adventure in my book.
And museums? Don't get me started. They are simply divine.
And Then There Are the Animals
I have a particularly soft spot for animals—especially the neglected, abandoned and otherwise overlooked ones. If I could give every animal a safe place to sleep and something good to eat, I probably would.
I spoil my dog and cat because, frankly, why not?
I’m fascinated by both domestic and wild animals and the way they enrich our lives simply by being themselves. Living in the Mojave makes that especially fun. Seeing a coyote chasing a roadrunner—literally—is hard to beat. So is discovering the incredible variety of birds, reptiles and small mammals living right outside our doors.
Animals have a way of reminding us to be present, curious and a little less self-important.
And maybe that's what Grateful Kitty is really about.
Pay attention. Stay curious. Get outside.
Take care of yourself and the creatures around you.
Find the good stuff.
And don't forget to enjoy your life while you're busy trying to improve it.
