Doctor By: Making Pet Supplements Feel More Like a Treat Than a Chore

The Pet Supplement Problem Is Real

Anyone who has ever tried to give a pet a pill knows that the word “supplement” can quickly become a negotiation.

The dog suddenly develops a suspicious relationship with cheese. The cat disappears. And somehow the tiny tablet you were certain was swallowed is sitting untouched on the floor.

That is one reason Doctor By caught my attention. Instead of building its pet wellness products around pills and powders, the company focuses heavily on lickable, gel-type supplements.

The idea is simple: make daily wellness easier to administer and more enjoyable for the animal.

What Is Doctor By?

Doctor By offers supplements for both dogs and cats, with products addressing areas such as immune support, digestion, probiotics, skin and coat health, joints, eyes, kidney and urinary support, hairballs, and respiratory support.

The brand's signature approach is its gel format.

Doctor By says its lickable supplements are designed to turn supplementation into a bonding experience. Rather than hiding a pill in food and hoping for the best, the pet can lick the product directly.

For picky pets, that is a genuinely practical idea.

Why the Gel Format Is Interesting

The most obvious benefit is convenience.

According to Doctor By, the liquid-style format eliminates chewing and swallowing and is designed for easier intake. The company also positions the gel as a more enjoyable alternative to bitter pills or messy powders.

I can see why that would matter.

Pet care is full of tiny routines that we technically know we should do but sometimes struggle to maintain. If the routine is unpleasant for the animal, it becomes harder to keep up.

Making a supplement taste more like a treat doesn't solve every pet-health issue, but it can solve a very ordinary problem: getting the pet to actually take it.

A More Emotional Kind of Wellness

There is also something I like about Doctor By's emphasis on bonding.

We sometimes talk about pet health as if it is entirely about food, medication, exercise, and veterinary appointments. Those things matter, but so does the relationship between an animal and the person caring for it.

A few seconds of eye contact while your dog happily licks a supplement from your hand is a very different experience from wrestling a pill into a reluctant mouth.

The wellness routine becomes interaction.

For people who see their pets as family—which, let's be honest, is most of us—the emotional side of care is important.

Products for Both Dogs and Cats

Doctor By's current lineup includes products for both species, although the specific products and availability can change.

Examples include Breath Care products for dogs and cats, probiotics, hip and joint support, skin and coat support, immune support, hairball support, and urinary and kidney products for cats. The company also offers a colostrum protein product for dogs and puppies.

The site reports more than 142,000 products sold, a 95% positive review rate, and sales in 13 territories.

Those are company-reported figures, but they give some context for the brand's reach.

Why I Think the Concept Works

The best wellness products usually solve a real problem.

Doctor By is solving a very unglamorous one: pets don't always cooperate with the way we want to care for them.

That makes the lickable format more than a gimmick. It is a design decision built around actual behavior.

I also like that the company makes products for both dogs and cats. If your household has multiple species, keeping pet care relatively simple is a real benefit.

Of course, no supplement should replace veterinary care, especially when a pet has persistent symptoms or a diagnosed condition. But for people who are already interested in supporting everyday pet wellness, a format that makes the routine easier may be worth exploring.

A Small Change That Can Make Pet Care Easier

One of the recurring themes in my life is that the best systems are usually the simplest ones. That is true for technology, finances, exercise, and pet care.

A product can have an impressive ingredient list, but if it creates a daily battle, it is not necessarily a great fit. Doctor By approaches the problem from the opposite direction: start with the pet's experience and make the routine easier.

That is what makes the brand interesting to me.

Because ultimately, caring for our animals isn't just about keeping them healthy. It is about making the everyday moments of that care feel good for both of us.

And if the dog thinks the supplement is a treat?

Honestly, that's a win.
